would receive no half pay for five months from the date on
which he assumed his duties.
4. If you concur in the observations made in
paragraph 2. perhaps you will be good enough to communicate with Mr. Wodehouse on the subject, though I quite realise that
my present suggestions should have been carried out before
Mr. Wodehouse's departure.
5. In case however you do not concur in my
views,I have the honour to state that at the time the ori-
ginal leave certificate was signed, it had escaped attention
that Mr. Wodehouse had been absent from duty on sick leave
for a period of 38 days,or 10 days in excess of the period
prescribed by Colonial Office Despatch No. 84 of the 13th.
May, 1890, during which an officer may take sick leave in any
one year on full pay.

6. I accordingly enclose two copies of leave
certificate amended to meet the case, and request that one
copy may be forwarded to Mr. Wodehouse with an explanation
of the reason of the alteration.
